• Vancouver Comic Con - Vancouver, BC Canada (A comic and modeling event that takes place at various times during the year)
  
  
• Washington Renaissance Faire Gig Harbor, Washington (costuming and life action entertainment with a renaissance flair) The Belfair Event has been cancelled for 2008 - check their web site for details.
  
  
• Northwest Renaissance Festival - Spokane, Washington (This, as it sounds, is a Renaissance costuming event stretched through the early to middle part of summer)

• Reno in 2011 bid for Worldcon (This bid out of Portland for a Reno, Nevada worldcon bid was recently announced and I (Jack Beslanwitch) will only say that my own preference is for Seattle and not Reno - but then I may be prejudiced by living in Seattle :-)

• The North American Science Fiction Convention - NASFiC is held in North America in any year where the Worldcon is outside of North America.

• Deep South Con is a traveling convention that shifts location throughout the south.
  
  
• Costume-con con is the quintessential costume event and is also a traveling convention.
  
  
• For devotees of murder mysteries there is Boucher Con which travels around the US and in the past has been in Alaska and Navada. Check out where it currently will riside.
  
  
• Clarion West (workshop) - summer, 2009 - Seattle, WA, USA (thriving Clarion SF and fantasy professional writing workshop)
  
  
• Clarion (workshop) - summer, 2009 - San Diego, CA, USA (the original Clarion SF and fantasy professional writing workshop)
  
  
• Clarion South (workshop) - January 4 - February 14, 2009 - Brisbane, Australia (Clarion South - which runs every two years in Brisbane, Australia - is the most intensive professional development program for speculative fiction writers in the southern hemisphere)
  
  
• SMOFcon (this is quintessentially the convention to go to if you are interested in running a convention. There are others local events such as ConComCon and Construction for the San Francisco Bay Area that help local convention runners, but SMOFcon is THE event during the year of this type)
  
  
• WisCon 30 - May 22 - 25, 2009 - Madison, Wisconsin - Feminist Science Fiction and Fantasy convention, annually over Memorial Day Weekend in Madison, WI. Programming ranges from fannish panels to readings, to becoming a writer. Tiptree auctions benefit the annual Tiptree award for gender-bending fiction.
  
  
• August 29 - September 1, 2008 DragonCon 2008 - Atlanta, Georgia This is one of the larger in terms of numbers for a science fiction convention with some emphasis on media and gaming and more. Also, they are head to head with WORLDCON, the premier convention in the world for true fen.
  
  
• Spring 2009 - Corflu 26 - Seattle, Washington - This is a convention a gathering of the fanzine fan community
